The Two Voices (Poem)

We each have a voice of truth within us

The needle on our compass that points due north

The inner citadel, our core, our center

The problem is, the voice isn’t very loud

In fact, it’s usually all but a whisper

Easily crowded out by worries, technologies, and to-do lists

You know, that other voice in our head that doesn’t stop talking

And usually speaks way louder

The background noise of our lives…

And yet, the whisper is always present

Inviting us to connect with our highest self

The true self

The self that feels honest

And open

And in sync with who we really are

You see, a magical thing happens when we start to listen to that voice

Resistance fades

Intuition emerges

Life finds a way

To conspire synchronicity

Create moments like water

Fluid, and harmonious

Turning suffering into poetry

Infused with the flavor of truth

So how do we get there?

They speak of stillness

And auras of mystical energy

But I’ll make it simple for you

It’s in the breath

Inhale

Exhale

Gentle rise

Easy fall

That’s all

The breath is like music

A melody to the silent inner space

Can you listen to the breath like you’d listen to a baby’s first heartbeat?

Life force lives within

There’s always a caveat

And the voice is no different

You see, the intution is always calling

And it’s a quick learner

If we stop answering the phone

It’s going to stop whispering

Can you summon the intention

To listen?
